CoffeeDuck the Refillable Filter Senseo Pod Coffee Machines EXCEPT HD7820 & 7832
I have used the Ecopad refillable pods for about a year now, and thought the Coffeeduck might be more convenient, but I don’t find that it makes my coffee as strong as the Ecopads do. They ‘snap’ together, and really seal the coffee inside so that the water must be forced through the coffee. The ‘..duck’, on the other hand, does not lock the coffee inside, and regardless of the admonition to be sure that there are no grounds left on the rim before putting the cover over the coffee, as well as being sure to use only a really fine grind to get the most flavor out of the brew, the Ecopad beats this device hands down.
I would recommend that a true ‘aficianado’ test both and come to their own conclusion.

I love this thing. Use it every day. I grind down my pre-ground or beans to espresso fine once every few days and keep a supply in a plastic container. I haven’t bought a single pre-made pod since I got it. (Though, I probably will keep some on hand just for convenience and for my boyfriend who can’t figure out this duck thing.)
Have a few suggestions:
— DO use espresso grind or grind down your regular drip grind supply – it makes a huge difference.
— DO adjust to your own taste and play around with it a bit. I like strong coffee, so I fill it to the top and hit the 8 oz button.
— Once in a while, DO clean off the part of the senseo top where the water comes out (the silver circle). The Duck top has holes so eventually leaves a fine silt-y layer where the water comes out unlike pods that can’t let any grounds through the filter material.
— *Important* FOLLOW THE DIRECTION that tells you to make sure there are NO CRUMBS on the edge of the base of the duck. Really – make sure. Your Senseo will dribble or gush (depending on how many bits of coffee grounds there are). I mean it. Even one tiny speck of coffee between the metal and the plastic will cause a leak. And leaks suck.
=== The only CON: The dump and refill process ===
The plastic top is hot so I let it cool off before I take it off to dump the grounds.
The grounds are also hot and don’t come out completely. I rinse it off before refilling it.
I think I need a countertop compost bucket or something because I’m sick of coffee spots on my floor from my counter to the trash can.
I think someday the hot coffee grounds will melt down the plastic trash can liner and I’ll be that person in the trash bag commercial whose bag breaks and dumps yucky trash all over the place when I try to take it outside.
That is the only reason that I rated it a four. I’d say it’s more like a 4 1/2 stars.
Cheers!

I broke down and bought a Senseo coffee maker. I waited so long because the pods are expensive and I like switching out flavors and brands. But the CoffeeDuck works as advertised! I can enjoy any type of coffee. No more paying $1 a piece (or more) for coffee pods. Don’t buy a Senseo without this accessory.

I enjoy the convenience of the Senseo but the cost of the pods is prohibitive so I decided to try the coffee duck. It works great, and you do still get the foam (unlike other pod replacement systems). Sure it is not as fast as “grab a pod and go” but you get to use your favorite coffee and it really only takes a few seconds to prep. Try it, I don’t think you will be disappointed.

I have read many of the negative review and have to say I am confused by them. I recently purchased the CoffeeDuck. It is great. Does exactly what it is supposed to do. Here is what I have found:
1. Lets be clear, the Senseo is not an expresso machine. Nothing can be done to make it create a true expresso. Now that said, the Senseo is capable of making a really good cup of coffee.
2, When using the Duck you must use expresso grind coffee. Anything coarser will may not yield satisfactory results. I use “danesi” decaffinated expresso coffee. Comes in a round tin much like the “Lily” coffee. It is a very fine grind.
3. I fill my Duck with a scoop which is precisely 29.6 cc of coffee. This is slightly more than two typical coffee single cup coffee measuring cups.
4. I use the top of the Duck as a tamp to flatten and tamp the coffee. I take care to make sure that there are no coffee grounds around the rim of the Duck, but this is not critical as long as one is not overly messy. I place the top onto the grounds then put the Duck into my Senseo.
5. I then use the 2 cup setting on my Senseo to brew the coffee. (Note: if I want to approximate expresso I use the single cup setting on my Senseo with slightly less coffee in the Duck.
The above procedure provides a really tasty, full bodied cup of coffee, consistently. The coffee also has the same foam topping as would be had using the Senseo pods.
All in all, I found this product to be excellent in doing that which it was intended to do when used properly and with the proper coffee grind. I highly recommend this product.
